I am the queen of starting a project, and then starting another one without fully completing the first one. There’s usually a reason though! Either, what I need is too expensive, I haven’t made my mind up on what I want, or I’m just over the project entirely.
Our breakfast room underwent a mini-makeover earlier this year, and it’s still not finished. I couldn’t decide what light fixture I wanted for the room… but I think I have finally made the decision. This is the one my husband likes the most, and it’s quite a bit less pricey than the ones I really want, so I think we’ll go with this one, but with 4 lights instead of 6:
So, decision made! After the light fixture is installed, the room will be completely finished. The total makeover was done under $900, and the room looks 1000% better if I say so myself. I’m really, really happy with how it turned out. I’d love a new table for the room, especially a round one, but it’s not a necessity, and it’s not a priority on my list for now since I have other projects with things to buy 😉

After (minus a new light fixture)
The next project we started working on was our back porch area. We installed a privacy wall along the side of the porch, and I absolutely love it! It really gave us the privacy we need, and I can’t wait to start using our outdoor eating area more. There’s still a bunch of other things we need to do for our outdoor space, so this one will definitely not be completed anytime soon, but I’m okay with that for now!
We’re planning to install an outdoor tv, ceiling fan, and then I’d like to install some patio step stones right off our back porch for another seating area and for all my potted plants to rest on. That project will be huge though, so we’ll probably wait until the end of the year or maybe early next year so we aren’t working on it in this ridiculous Louisiana heat!
I recently started working on designing our master bedroom. It really needed a little bit of a makeover since I never felt like I tried to decorate it when we moved in almost 2 years ago. Here’s some before pictures:
There’s really nothing wrong with this room (other than the nightstands), but I’d love to make it match some of our other rooms that are finished.
A few notes:
- Our bed is too big for the room; however, I love it, and we really need a king bed, so it’s just going to have to work in this space. I love sleigh beds, but they take up a lot more room, so if I was purchasing another bed, I would probably pick one without a foot board. I’ll try to remember that for next time. 😉
- New nightstands are a must because these are way too small for the large bed that we have now. I want nightstands that can work as dressers/chests to allow us a little more storage, and there’s really not enough space for a dresser in this room.
- I’d like a new comforter because I’m a bit tired of the white. I like to change things up, ya know?
- I’d love to hang a chandelier in our room, but that’ll never happen. My husband LOVES the fan, so it has to stay.
- I really want to install crown molding. I think it’ll really complete the space.
I’ve already started working on this room, and it’s actually almost complete! I’d love to remove the carpet and install hardwood, but that’ll be a huge project for another day! I’ll share a full update and post on the room once it’s finished… hopefully in the next couple of weeks! I need some new lighter curtains, and I plan to try and install some crown molding… then the project will officially be finished.
Today, I painted our half bathroom, which I like to call “powder room” because it sounds fancier. 😉 It was originally a yellow-y/gold color, and every other room in our house is a shade of gray or this crazy blue/green color I picked out (which will be repainted one day). I had hopes of installing some wall molding just to add a little pizzazz to the space, but I think I’m going to ax that idea, since the room is quite small. I’d like to paint the cabinet black and install a new mirror. So that project is still in the works now, too.
Before:
I’ll post some new photos of the room once it’s fully done. The paint already makes a huge difference! If only we could get rid of this yucky tile…
We also plan to repaint all of the cabinets in the house. They’re looking pretty beat up after 15+ years, so it’s time to redo them. I’m hoping to paint all of the cabinets in the bathrooms black and then the ones in the kitchen white. I don’t know much about cabinet painting, but it seems like a TON of work, so I’d love to pay someone to do that for us, especially since they would probably be a lot quicker, but we’ll see. It kind of depends on the price and what the husband says. 😉
I think that’s all of the projects I’m currently working on. It’s a lot, but it gives me things to do besides shop and work non-stop! Do you start a lot of projects and rarely complete them before moving on to the next one?
