New Orleans overnight trip

10/03/2016 By Heather Leave a Comment

Last Monday (September 26th), we ventured off to New Orleans for the Saints vs. Falcons football game.  It’s my husband’s favorite game to attend each year, and this time we were given some free tickets!  Bonus!  We weren’t planning to attend any games this year since we’ll be heading off to Italy shortly, so we decided to try to save a little bit by not going to a Saints game this year, butluckily, with those free tickets, we were able to take a quick overnight trip.

New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons

We booked a room at 523 Loft, which was an interesting place to stay.  The room was very loft-like with concrete floors.  It was quite spacious, and the bathroom was huge and had an enormous tub, too!  The room was very clean as well, which is always nice.  Although all of that sounds great, I probably would not stay there again, and here’s why:

  1. There’s literally no sign outside, so the place was super hard to find.  Not a deal breaker of course, but being able to find your hotel is always a good thing, especially if you arrive after dark.
  2. This the the big one: there’s a bar/club inside the hotel, and it plays extremely loud music until about 2:30am.  I’m not a granny by any means, but 2:30am is not when I want to hear loud bass when I’m trying to sleep.  The rooms also have very old and thin windows, so you hear every outside noise.  There was a group of people that stayed outside the bar yelling loudly until the bar/club closed, so it was quite hard to fall asleep.  Plus, construction noise began at 6am the next day, so I wasn’t able to get much sleep that night.

Luckily, we were only there for 1 night, but still.  Being able to get a good night’s rest is always appreciated.

Cafe du Monde Beignets

After the Saints game, we went to Cafe du Monde.  If you’ve never been, you must go!  We went there at midnight on Monday night and did not have to wait for a seat.  If you’ve been there during the day, there’s always a long line to get in, so go during the middle of the night and eat all of the beignets you want!!

Acme Oyster Grill - Chargrilled Oysters

We checked out of our hotel around 10:30am and headed to Jacob’s favorite restaurant, Acme Oyster Grill, for some chargrilled oysters.  I am probably the pickiest person on the planet, and those oysters are AMAZING!!  Seriously, try them out the next time you stop by Acme.  They are so, so good!

After lunch, we headed back home.  It was such a fast overnight trip, but well worth it just to get away for an evening.  I’m still thinking about those beignets!
