Yes, I know it’s February now, but I started this post at the beginning of the year, and then I totally forgot to actually publish it.
At the end of 2020, I recapped my goals from the year, so now it’s time to share my new year’s resolutions. They’re written down and published officially now, so that means I have to do them, right?
My word of the year is: Positivity. I am going to focus on being more positive. In recent years, I feel like I have definitely stepped away from that for whatever reason, and nobody wants to be around a Debbie Downer or Negative Nellie, so I will be focusing on the good and finding the positive in situations even when it’s easier to just talk about the negatives. This past year has been rough, and I know it’s affected me so much mentally, so being positive or finding the positive in every day life will definitely help me recover and grow.
Okay, let’s talk about goals now. I always have a lot, but last year I did really well with several of them, so let’s try that again!
- Goal 1: Continue healthy eating and reach my “comfortable” weight. Have you heard of your “comfortable” weight before? Basically, it’s a number that you feel comfortable with… the number that you’re fine with weighing even if it’s not your complete ideal weight. So for example, say your goal weight is 120 pounds, but ideally your comfortable weight is more like 120-130 pounds. If you feel comfortable with how you look at 130 pounds, then that’s great. Maybe 120 pounds isn’t the number that you have to get to to feel your best all the time. I believe finding a range is an ideal way to live, so I hope to reach my comfortable weight this year! I’ll update my progress as time goes on.
I am starting my third phase of MacroFIT, and I absolutely love it! The food is so yummy, usually somewhat easy to make, and you do not feel like you are dieting at all. And the best part? The portion sizes are such a good size! Not one time have I been forced to give up carbs or eat kale, and that to me is the sign of a great program. I will be sharing more about it in another post in a few weeks, but if you sign up, you will not be disappointed in the food options. It’s really, really good healthy food, and if you are a cajun food lover, you will be extremely satisfied with the recipes! Plus there’s awesome snacks you can have (hello ice cream), and you are also given some “to go” options for when you are out and about at restaurants. I can’t wait to share my progress in the next few months because it seriously works and it is so doable. I never stick with anything very long, but this program is sustainable and enjoyable!
- Goal 2: Eat my pantry food or donate it. My mom and I always say we could live off of our pantries and freezers for months, and sadly, that is very, very true for us. I hate having an empty fridge and pantry. It would really stress me out if I opened it, and there was nothing in it, but we do live in excess and have way more food than we really need for just 3 people. So this year, I would like to start working on eating up what we have (in a healthy way, of course), or I need to find someone to donate it to, so we have less food waste. Is this something you would like to work on as well?
- Goal 3: Learn to build things. This may surprise you a little, but I have always wanted to learn how to build things for our house. Years ago, I built a bench for our front porch of our very first house. It was seriously not the best thing, but I was super proud because I did it myself (with some guidance from my husband). After the hurricanes hit this past year, I was super excited that we still had it after our shed was destroyed, so I’m going to put it back together and display it on our back porch. Maybe I’ll make a new nicer one for the front porch!
This year, I’d like to build some pull out shelves for our pantry to help with the pantry food issue we have. If I can’t see it easily, then I usually just go buy it at the store… which is why we now have a pantry that we could live off of for months. I’m hoping that these pull out drawers will help us buy less things and use what we already have!
I’d also like to learn how to transform our master bedroom with some molding on the walls. Nothing too busy or detailed, but I’d like something to add a little more dimension to the room. I made some board and batten in a few rooms already with Jacob’s help, but I am hoping to try to tackle this one by myself for the most part.
You can see a little bit of the molding we’ve done before in our breakfast room, Elliott’s room and my office.
One other thing I’d like to learn how to do is install faucets in our house. We have to reinstall all of ours because we got new countertops, so I’m going to let Jacob will show me how to install them. A couple of years ago I asked him to show me how to install light fixtures. I really don’t remember a whole lot from it other than it was really frustrating at the time, so I may try to learn how to do that again as well. Second time’s a charm, right?
- Goal 4: Declutter. Oh my goodness, we have lots of clutter everywhere, so this year I’d really like to buckle down and get rid of things we no longer use or things that I don’t enjoy anymore now that my decor taste has changed a bit. Do you have a clutter problem? I love to decorate, but with that comes lots of “stuff” and to be honest, we really just don’t need that much anymore. I’d love to be able to proudly show off all of the rooms in our house, but with the way things have been, I would never open the doors to some of the rooms because there is just stuff everywhere. I’m hoping to learn to live with the phrase “If it doesn’t have a place, then it doesn’t need to be in our place.” I’ll let you know how decluttering goes once we get to move back in our house after the repairs are finished.
- Goal 5: Get off my phone. I spend a lot of time looking up decor ideas or things to change in our current home, as well as social media, but I need to slow down and turn it off at night. My goal is to put my phone down by 9pm. That gives me about 1.5 hours to look up whatever I want after Elliott goes to sleep and then I can relax a bit before going to bed. Good plan, right? Last year, I did terrible with this goal, so I’m hoping to be a little better with it this time around.
I think those are 5 solid goals that can totally be reached this year. I’d really like to grow things with my blog as well, but finding time to create new posts is not always easy, so I’m going to leave that off my goal list for now, but just know that I do hope to start posting regularly. What goals are you making for 2021?
