Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and finding the perfect gift can sometimes be quite difficult. My mom is pretty easy to buy for, and she usually gives me a couple of ideas just in case I need them. In the past, I’ve purchased a flower or plant she wanted, maybe a gift card to her favorite store (she’s LOVES gift cards), of course, I’ve made some things for her or had them made that were a little more sentimental gifts.
Probably my favorite gift I’ve given her recently was actually for Christmas, but it’s also perfect for Mother’s Day or a birthday gift as well. My step-dad passed away from Cancer almost 8 years ago, and it’s hard to believe it’s already been that long. Sometimes it feels like yesterday, and sometimes it feels like so many years ago. I’m so thankful for the time I had with him, but I do miss him every day, and I wish I would have been a little older before he passed because I wish I would have really been able to appreciate our time together then as much as I do now. I was young, so I didn’t quite “get it” and his importance until I grew up, which is okay, but it’s something that I wish was a little different.
For Christmas this past year, I had a bar necklace engraved with his handwriting and name. I dug through my mom’s house until I found the perfect note he had written her, and I was able to use it to have the necklace made. Of course, I felt terrible sneaking around and digging through my mom’s belongings, but I knew it would be something she would really, really enjoy. I told her I snooped and that it was for a gift, but I didn’t tell her what it was, so that at least made me feel better than just pretending I didn’t go through her house without her knowledge.
1. I ordered the necklace from this Etsy store, and it arrived on time and was perfect. I can tell my mom really likes it because I’ve noticed her wearing it a lot, which is really nice to see.
2. Is your mom a writer or someone that keeps a journal? My mom writes a lot of stuff and keeps a journal at times as well, so a nice leather book is a great idea for a gift. You can find a large selection of handmade leather journals on Etsy, like this one.
3. Are you more into the homemade gifts? If so, these DIY bath salts are a great idea if your mom enjoys a relaxing bath from time to time. You could create a small basket of bath stuff for your mom with candles and bath salts, and don’t forget to include a bottle of wine or a wine glass, so she can have that with her bath too.
4. Another gift basket idea is books. My mom loves to read and has hundreds of books. So creating a book gift basket would be the perfect gift idea for my mom.
5. If your mom is a grandmother, a personalized gift from the grandkids is such a wonderful idea. There’s so many ideas on Pinterest for gifts from the grandkids, but I especially love this blanket. You can upload your own photos, and Shutterfly will have the blanket made for you, and who doesn’t love a comfy blanket? The best part… this one had photos of her grandkids on it!
Of course, flowers, chocolate, wine and gift cards are all great ideas as well. What are you planning to get your mom for Mother’s Day? Do you do more sentimental gifts or things you know she’ll love? I’m still on the hunt for my mom’s gifts, but I better hurry!
