This past weekend we headed 3 hours north to Shreveport to see old friends and our new friend, Michael Carbonaro, live in action. First, we had lunch with some of Jacob’s old coworkers at Superior Grill (mexican food). If you don’t know, mexican food is probably my favorite thing ever. I love queso and chips, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc. But I mostly go to mexican restaurants for the queso. True story! I could eat queso and chips every day of my life. Soooo yummy!!
Superior has good queso of course, but most people go there for the magical margaritas. These things are toxic. No one really knows what’s in them, but they are pretty good! It’s kind of like the hand grenades in New Orleans. The ingredients are secret, but the drinks are so dang delicious. You have to be careful though because like I said, they are toxic. 😉 One drink can make you very goofy if you know what I mean.
We spent almost 3 hours at lunch, and it was great. I enjoyed catching up and listening to fun stories. After lunch, we were exhausted from the drive, so we took a nap in the hotel. We’re so adventurous, right? I know, I know. We try to keep our craziness to a minimum.
After our nap, it was time to see Michael Carbonaro. First up was an opening act by Peet Guercio. He’s a comedian and good friend of Michael Carbonaro. I’m not sure how long he talked (maybe 15 minutes), but he was really funny. He really seemed to enjoy the audience, and we all really enjoyed his act.
Back to Michael Carbonaro: If you don’t know who he is, he is a magician that has his own tv show called The Carbonaro Effect on TruTV. He basically does a bunch of magic trucks during the tv show. We have tried and tried to figure out how he pulls off some of the magic, but we seriously cannot figure it out. He’s so good.
We weren’t really sure what to expect from the live show. Was it just going to be a bunch of clips from the show (like the Impractical Jokers tour we saw a year ago)? Or would he perform some tricks and let us in on some secrets? Well, I’m so happy to say we were pleasantly surprised. He only showed 1 clip, which was at the end of his show while he got ready for his final act. By the way, his final act (or you could call it a performance) was so crazy, but really interesting. I don’t want to give anything away, but it was definitely unique!
He performed a bunch of tricks with some audience interaction. Hello, crazy Louisiana drunk lady that just walked on stage as a volunteer. We had such great seats (4th row from the stage!), so we thought for sure we would be able to see how he pulls off some of his tricks, but nope. We couldn’t figure out anything! He performed some really crazy things that were so unbelievable, we were like, “Hold on. What? How did he do that?!”
I’ve seen David Copperfield do magic tricks in person as well, but Michael Carbonaro was incredibly entertaining. He was SO SO SO good. He was very funny, charismatic and really seemed to enjoy the audience interaction. I would 100% recommend his show to anyone. We left pleasantly surprised, and we’ve been talking about the show all weekend.
If he’s ever in your area, you must go!! Even if you are sitting in the last row, go! It was absolutely worth the 3 hour drive to see him!
The next morning, we had breakfast at one of our old breakfast spots, and then we drove by our old neighborhood to check out our house, and then we headed back to Lake Charles. It was such a fun, short weekend, but I’m so glad we went! I miss Shreveport/Bossier City!!
So happy you had a fun weekend!! It all sounded amazing! I’d love to see Michael Carbonaro in person one day too!
You should go! He was so, so good! I’m still talking about his show today.
