This Sunday marks one of my favorite days of the year. No, I’m not talking about my birthday, our anniversary or the days we got our pups. I’m talking about the Oscars!! The Oscars is definitely my favorite awards show to watch. I love movies and of course reading about celebrity gossip (thanks, E! News, People and TMZ).
I’ve been seeing a lot of movies lately, which is something that I had stopped doing for a little while. With the Oscars coming up, I knew I better get my butt to the movies ASAP to see some of the Oscar contenders. I’ve only seen a few, but they were all really great.

Of course, there’s La La Land, which to be honest wasn’t 100% my style of movie (I’m not a huge musical lover), but the message conveyed through the story was really inspiring and real. I’m pretty sure it’s going to win a TON of awards on Sunday night. I would be really shocked if it didn’t win for best actress, best actor, director and best picture. Seriously, I will be pretty surprised.

I watched Hidden Figures the other day by myself, and I really enjoyed it. I can’t imagine growing up in a time where things were so segregated. It was a really inspiring movie, and I was really pumped with what those ladies were able to accomplish especially during that time. I really enjoyed this movie a lot!

I also saw Hacksaw Ridge. It had been on my list for a long time, and I knew it would be leaving the theater soon, so I went by myself in the middle of the day. There was only one other person in the theater, which was good because I had to hold back my tears otherwise. I really don’t know how you could not be inspired by that movie. That man was incredible. He saved SO many others, including some Japanese, and it was just so inspiring and touching. Definitely a true hero. If you haven’t seen it, I believe it’s available on Red Box now.
I’ve also seen a few other movies lately.

Patriot’s Day was the first one Jacob and I watched together. It’s about the Boston Marathon bombing. This movie bothered me a little bit just because I knew it was about recent events. It was a pretty good movie, and we both thought that the actors that were cast for specific roles looked very similar to the people in real life (mayor, governor, victims, etc. ), so props to the casting director. I can’t believe how quickly the police/FBI were able to figure out and capture the suspects. It’s pretty amazing how quickly all of that can happened. We both enjoyed the movie. I think I saw Patriot’s Day on the same day I watched Hacksaw Ridge, so it was a pretty deep day for me.

Last night, we checked out A Dog’s Purpose. It’s been on my must see list for a while, but we hadn’t really found a good time to go. Luckily, last night was it! It was such a cute movie. Of course, some dogs passed away, but they did it tastefully and quite sweet. I’m pretty sure everyone in the theater was crying at some point. It was sad, but it was also uplifting and adorable. Dogs are simply the best. They know when you’re sad. They know when you’re sick. They can just sense things, and it’s absolutely amazing. The first 45 minutes of the movie were not sad, so you at least have a little while to prepare yourself. Although it was sad at times, it was still so, so cute! If you have a dog, you must see it. Yeah, it’s not award winning, but it can definitely make you smile a whole lot. We both got home and gave our pups a little extra attention after the movie!

Lastly, this one is not a movie, but I really want to include it in my recently watched list. Have you watched the premiere of Big Little Lies on HBO? OMG. I am already hooked. There’s just something about it. It’s suspenseful, and it has such a great cast!! We don’t normally have HBO, but I either need to get it, or ask my mom to keep recording it for me. I’m not sure how much she liked it, but goodness, the premiere was great! I can’t wait to see what happens in these next 6 episodes. After the show is over, I definitely want to read the book!
Back to the Oscars, I can’t wait for Sunday night! I just love the glitz and glamour, fashion, celebrities and of course, the awards! Which movies have you seen that are up for an Oscar this year? I definitely wish I would have seen a few more, so I’ll have to check them out soon.
