I‘ve mentioned giving my office a makeover a few times now. Are you tired of hearing about it? Me too. HA! I think that if I keep mentioning it, then maybe the makeover will actually happen. Is that how that works? No? Bummer.
I really want to finish working on my office, but I’m kind of at a standstill now because what I want to do is not something that can easily happen overnight. I want the space to look finished and like somewhere I actually conduct my Notable Affairs business instead of the mass chaos that is usually in that room which leads me to working from my living room couch instead.
I finally put my new desk in the office, and I’ve purchased some super cute hot pink desk chairs, and now I really think I need another desk to create the ultimate working space. One desk would be used for my computer work, and then the other side can be used to do my cutting and packaging. Good plan, right?!
The room is pretty bright now that I’ve switched out my blackout curtains for some white ones. Hopefully, it won’t get too hot in there during the summer months. Only time will tell…
All that’s left on my to do list are:
- Create built-ins along one of the walls (this will be a bit pricey)
- Purchase a 2nd desk
- Purchase some kind of printer stand that’s black – My current one is bright yellow! Maybe I could paint it?
- Possibly rip out carpet and put down hardwood. I’d really like to do this, but it’s going to be SO much work to move everything out of the office. I still haven’t figured out if it’s worth the headache yet.
- Finish adding crown molding in the room
- Hang the new light fixture (Jacob doesn’t know about this one yet… shhh!)
The built-ins are definitely going to be a huge project, but I’d really like to try to tackle it myself. Do I know what I’m doing? Definitely not. But I am willing to give it a try. I really don’t need anything too fancy. Just bookshelves that are 125 inches wide by 8ish feet tall. I’d love to use kitchen cabinets for the bottom to give me a little bit of cabinet space where I can house some of my ugly supplies, and then attach some bookshelves I’ve made on top of the kitchen cabinets. I have no idea how much it will cost or how much work it’ll be or how long it will take, but I know that once it’s done, I’m really going to enjoy going in that room more.
Do you have any tips on building bookshelves? I’m so ready to get started, so I can complete this project and enjoy my new space! I’d love to hear any building tips you have or see some tutorials if you’ve made your own bookshelves. They’ve been hard to come by on Pinterest so far!
