A quick overnight trip to Houston was just what I needed. A little car maintenance, a mini getaway with my mom, and some shopping fun made for a great weekend. Here’s a little recap:
My appointment with Audi was at 10am, so we got up super early on a Saturday to head over to Houston. 5:15am came way to early for this girl to get up and get ready, but I survived. I think next time, I’ll make the appointment for 11am, just so I can sleep a little later. We made it to Houston around 915am and were able to use a loaner car while my car got the works done. Luckily, The Woodlands is only a few miles away, so we jetted off to the mall. Anthropologie, White House Black Market, Williams-Sonoma, Loft, Nordstrom, etc… can’t go wrong with those stores! After a few hours, my car was ready, so we switched out of the loaner car (Q3), which thankfully, I did not love. I’m so glad I got the Q5, and I’m so glad I didn’t like something that they gave me to drive! I think Jacob is very happy about this too! 😉
After we picked up my car, we went to the flooring store to buy a box of engineered hardwood that we’re considering for our house. We have some yucky tile EVERYWHERE in our house that I absolutely do not like, so this year we’re thinking about ripping it all up and putting down hardwood instead, and I cannot wait!! We don’t plan to stay in this house forever, so we aren’t planning to spend a ton on real hardwood, but this one is definitely pretty, and the price is stellar! I wanted to get a box just to make sure it looked like the sample they sent us and also so we could see what a lot of planks would look like in our house with our lighting. Luckily, we both still love it, so hopefully sometime this year we’ll start the process of changing out the floors. It’s going to be so. much. work. though, so maybe we’ll look into having someone install it for us. I always prefer to pay someone else to do all of the hard stuff for us, but Jacob does not. We’ll see who wins on this one. Stay tuned 😉 Here’s what it looks like in our house:
We had lunch at Pappasitos, and it was good. I love queso so, so much, and the enchiladas aren’t too bad either.
After lunch, we headed to Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack, which are basically right next to each other. Marshall’s was fun of course, but I had the most fun at Nordstrom Rack. I picked up two pairs of shoes, a super cute watch, and some eye makeup there. Whoop!! The shoes I purchased *might* actually replace those ones I wrote about from Payless. Can you believe it? I might have actually found some that could replace them because they come up high and I can wear socks with them!!! We’ll see though. Those Payless ones are still so comfortable and great for long hours of shopping!
We stayed overnight at Homewood Suites, which is great for us. My mom takes the room, and I use the sofa bed to sleep. We grabbed Chick fil a for dinner because that’s totally us, and watched a little Dateline before bed. We’re so adventurous.
The next morning, we planned to grab some sprinkle donuts from a donut shop nearby, and then wanted to hit up ZGallerie, Crate & Barrel along with a few other stores. We picked up donuts from River Oaks Donuts, and they were SOOO good! I totally forgot to take a picture of the sprinkle donut, but it was yummy!
By the way, if we ever move to Houston, my goal is to live in River Oaks. The houses are so gorgeous and grand and probably cost well over a million bucks. There’s nothing wrong with dream, right?!
We ate donuts in the Crate & Barrel parking lot and realized that the stores didn’t open until 11am, so I just decided we could head home instead of waiting another hour in the car. On the way home, we stopped at Marshalls in Beaumont just for fun, and I spotted some really cute hot pink chairs. They’re tufted on the back, which is my fave, and I’ve been trying to find a new desk chair for my office. I used some gift cards and bought the two hot pink chairs!! One for my desk and one as an accent chair for the room. So now, I have my desk, chairs and light for the office. All that’s left is to build some bookshelves, and then this room will be complete. I’m not sure when we’ll try to do the book shelves, but we’ll get to it eventually! Yay for progress. So now, it looks like the room will be black, white, gold with pops of hot pink and maybe teal!
Anyways, after Marshalls we made it back to Lake Charles. We had such a great weekend, and I love shopping with my mom. We both know when we’re done and ready to leave a store, so it never feels awkward or like we’re rushing each other.
This little overnight trip was really great for me. I needed it. I really doubt every weekend is going to be this fun and an adventure, but I sure have enjoyed the last two weekend trips!
so glad you had a fun weekend! I enjoyed reading your recap!
Thanks, Connie! 😀
It was a really fun time! I can’t wait until the next one!!! I love our mini-adventures and our grand-adventures too!
Me too! I’m ready when you are!
